Strategic cultural planning for the city of Lviv, Ukraine
The project introduces a shared approach to the planning of cultural life and cultural policy in the city of Lviv, which is a major city in western Ukraine and one of the main cultural centres of the country as a whole. The aim is to involve local authorities and the local community, cultural organisations and experts, in developing and implementing a cultural action plan.
Developing Lviv’s cultural framework in a way that engages the wider community and responds to its cultural needs: this is the main task which the project sets itself. An important aspect of this is, first of all, to make the public and the authorities aware of the potential economic and social benefits which culture can bring to the city, and the need for strategic planning to exploit this potential. Links between culture and other sectors need to be created or, where they exist already, strengthened, creating greater opportunities for partnership and funding. The project aims to assist the City Council in developing developing and implementing cultural policy, as well as stimulating cultural projects and programmes designed to improve social cohesion.
